Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal have been given life by the new head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq as both of them have been listed for Sri Lanka's T20 series at home. Apart from Shehzad and Akmal, Faheem Ashraf has also been included in the 16-man squad. All three have replaced Abid Ali, Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq from the ODI team and the other 13 have retained their place.

The Imam has been thrown out due to injury, which was in his left hand. Shahzad last played in a T20 match against Scotland last year. However, the 27-year-old opener performed in a spectacular PSL this year. Where he scored 311 runs at an average of 51.83. Shahzad has 131 sixes in T20 cricket.

On the other hand, Umar Akmal has not played the shortest format for Pakistan since September 2016. He made his ODI comeback earlier this year for the Australia series but was ruled out again. In the PSL this year, the 29-year-old played some important innings and performed brilliantly in the tournament with an average of 34.62 and a strike-rate of 137.12.
