Former captain Mark Taylor, who has performed brilliantly in the Ashes series, has backed Steve Smith to become the captain of the Australian cricket team again. Smith, 30, was banned for 12 months in the Cape Town Test for attempting to tamper with the ball with sandpaper. He was then suspended for a year for any captaincy role. At the same time, wicketkeeper Tim Paine took over the captaincy in the Test and was also praised after the team retained the Ashes at Old Trafford last week, but he will turn 35 in December.
